What Causes Vertigo

What causes vertigo? It is a very complex answer. I have had vertigo for over 7 months now and One thing I have learned is that the doctors really don't know anything about what causes vertigo. Several have even told me so. I know that vertigo can be very, very debilitating. It knocks you off your feet and takes control of your life. I can handle pain, but this is much worse than any pain I have ever felt.

Vertigo is caused by tiny particles inside your inner ear touching tiny hairs and sending a signal to you brain that you just jerked your head. Of course you didn't and there in lies the problem. Your brain is getting mixed messages! Some doctors have told me diet is the leading cause of vertigo. They say the salt and potassium levels are out of balance. There are more serious causes of vertigo including brain tumors, high blood pressure, and ear infections. An ear infection would be an easy diagnosis and treatment for a doctor.

In my case, it appears that diet and high blood pressure have been what caused vertigo. I am currently undergoing treatment for both with moderate success. It is just so slow. My progress is measured in weeks not hours.

My best tip for those that have been unable to kick vertigo through the normal means of epley maneuvers (exersises) and other means is to take some non-drowsy Dramamine or Bonine. It is the same exact thing as Antivert (mezecline HCL) which is most often prescribed by doctors. It is half the cost and has made my life at least livable.
